Global issues

A collection of TED Talks (and more) on the topic of Global issues.

Georgios asserts that societal and technological trends have been shaping certain processes of digitalisation of our decision-making, at regional, national and international levels over centuries. Democratic systems have been evolving in the last two and a half thousand years based on demographics, cultural and technological advances, trade, and other contributing factors. But never before have we seen such drastic changes purely contributed by technology alone. He questions whether our democratic systems be digitalised ‘safely'.

Key Note Speaker at Mastering Diversity Conference 2023

At the Mastering Diversity Conference, I spoke about Diversity in the Artificial Intelligence Era, highlighting AI's significant benefits and challenges, focusing on diversity and inclusion. I pointed out that AI, shaped by the data we feed it, carries the potential for bias, especially in critical sectors like healthcare and finance. I questioned the implications of these biases on our communities and suggested that overcoming these issues requires cooperation among policymakers, tech leaders, and the public. This collaboration aims to establish a system of checks and balances, guided by global ethics, to ensure AI technologies reflect our values and work towards the collective good. My message emphasised moving forward with AI development responsibly, with an unwavering dedication to inclusivity.

Convergence: The Future of Oncology with Open Innovation, Artificial Intelligence, and Advanced Cancer Treatments

December 2023

In my TEDx presentation, I discussed the dynamic connection between health, technology, and science communications from my perspective as an ethical and health technologist. My collaboration with clinicians and executives in Value-Based Health Care has been focused on leveraging technological innovation to enhance health outcomes. I emphasized the importance of cross-disciplinary teamwork in fighting cancer, inspired by my own experiences and the latest progress in medical technology. I shared the optimism that innovative treatments bring to cancer patients, reminding us that behind every data point is a personal struggle against the disease. Our team is committed to improving cancer care by harnessing the combined expertise of clinical oncologists, pathologists, computer scientists, innovators, and AI specialists, all united in the goal of transforming oncology through technology and innovative thinking. Addressing the challenges of compartmentalised research and development, I called for an integrated approach to health innovation that focuses on the common good. I underscored the pursuit of advanced cancer therapies as crucial, highlighting the need for a balanced approach to well-being and the pivotal role of convergence in achieving medical advances. My talk was a call to action for increased collaboration and innovation, showcasing the power of human resolve to create a healthier future for all.
